WSJ Features Varcode's Vaccine Safety Solution | Varcode

The Wall Street Journal article, “Temperature-Tracking Tools Take Center Stage in Covid-19 Vaccine Rollout” outlines how Varcode is leading the way in protecting temperature-sensitive vaccines.

Devices ranging from sophisticated sensors to heat-sensitive labels help ensure the fragile doses are maintained at the right levels in high-stakes supply chains

“These Covid-19 vaccines were the fastest to develop but will be the hardest to deploy,” said Joe Battoe, chief executive of Varcode Ltd., which makes scannable tags with bar codes that follow changes in conditions in transport containers based on time and temperature.

Varcode, which before the pandemic mostly served perishable-foods suppliers, is working with two of the top 10 global drugmakers involved in the Covid-19 vaccine effort, Mr. Battoe said.

The company’s labels track how much time the temperature in a container has fallen outside a specified range. With pharmaceutical products, “as you exceed that, you lose potency and efficacy of the drug,” Mr. Battoe said. “What’s critical is how much time it spends over that.”
